Omega invited fate too readily with the timing of Fyter Fest. If there was a time and place for everything, as Khan had said, an ostensible advertisement for the show was not it. Omegaâs vision for pro wrestling collided with Khanâs in what was a more interesting match-up than Allie Vs. Leva Bates, which was a slow, sloppy and overtly choreographed bout with a rotten finish. Bates was handed a book by her fellow âlibrarianâ valet Peter Avalon, who missed entirely in a woeful attempt at a comedy spot. It was an amateurish affair that, in a major indictment of AEWâs womenâs division, was outworked by a match involving an actual amateur: CEO founder Alex Jebailey. As a match worked for a specific crowd with a very lenient tolerance for comedy, the noise signified that Jebailey Vs. Michael Nakazawa worked on a certain level. Contrasted with AEWâs written word, it was a catastrophe. Jebaileyâs forearms looked pathetic even by the standards of a non-athlete. If accusations that this was anti-wrestling seemed hysterical, for what was a nine minute comedy match promoted a century after the business was exposed, they were not untrue: Jebailey looked petrified at the prospect of hurting his opponent. The match popped the crowd with an absurd escalation; minutes after slipping in baby oil for a lark, Jebailey attempted to drown Nakazawa in a swimming pool stage prop. Jebailey took a crazed table bump that always gets over on an incredulous level when a celebrity does it, but this was analysed under a microscope and beneath it, his corpsing face invited howls of scorn.
